Has it really been 20 years?
My how Chucky has grown. As any of you who know me should know, I have never really been much of a fan of the Child's Play franchise. Never really had much of a use for it and because of that fact what I am about to say should carry more weight then if I were a huge fan of the films
CHILD'S PLAY 20th BIRTHDAY EDITION is a must have addition to your horror dvd collection. Not because it is such a great film, cause it's not but because there is no denying the fact that CHUCKY and the CHILD'S PLAY films are major players in the horror world and the special features on the release bring that point home better then anything else I have ever seen.
Not going to go into the actual feature to much as you should all be aware of the CHUCKY saga. This presentation does look and sound awesome and for those of you who actually want to watch the film, this is good news indeed.
The good news for the rest of us is that a lot of attention was paid to the special feature for CHUCKYS birthday and that is a present we all get to share in.
A boat load of fun is to be found inside this disc and it all starts with a couple really cool commentary tracks. We've got one with stars Alex Vincent and Kathrine Hicks and FX wix Kevin Yagher ( did you know they were married? I didn't till I watched this disc).
A seprate yet equally entertaining track is held with Producer David Kirschner and screenwriter Don Mancini.
Noteably absent is a commentary with Director Tom Holland but as I reported earlier this week a commentary track is available at ICONS OF FRIGHT so you're going to want to check that out.
Anyway, back to the features actually on the disc.
I really enjoyed the three part EVIL COMES IN SMALL PACKAGES feature that outlines the birth and implimantion of the good guy would become CHUCKY. A really great behind the scenes look at the creation of a horror icon.
Also worth a look is the CHUCKY: Building A Nightmare segment. Gotta see it.
There is a short segment from a Q and A with the stars from a convention that is kind of light in substance but a couple of intresting facts arise (like Hicks and Yagher being married).
And lastly a really enjoyable featurette that was originally released with the film called INTODUCING CHUCKY: The Making Of CHILD'S PLAY thats only fault is being way to short. I loved the vintage take on the film. Actually this segment would be the biggest reason that I recommend this disc.
So since you can't deny the importance and impact of CHILD'S PLAY I guess there is no reason not to celebrate it with a little Birthday party and if you're going to throw one might as well make it a good one and the folks behind this one have certainly managed that.
CHILD'S PLAY 20th BIRTHDAY EDITION is out now and available anywhere that sells DVD's.
