By James Van Fleet

::sigh::

The newest horror film to be remade, A Nightmare on Elm Street, has begun in earnest with the assignment of a writer.  The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Wesley Strick will be responsible for turning the 1984 classic slasher film into a new version that plays to today's audiences.  The remake's been discussed for some years now, but this seems like the first real step forward for a reworking.

Wesley Strick penned Arachnophobia, Cape Fear, Doom, and The Glass House, so he's not hard up for experience in horror.  What remains to be seen is whether or not he'll have a fresh angle for the story, seeing as how the original was easily the most original of all the eighties slashers.

Can't we . . . just . . . have something new?
