NBC is gambling that viewers are hungry for fava beans and nice chianti. The struggling network has ordered 13 episodes of a small screen adaptation of "Hannibal" without all the pilot show fanfare in which most new shows are subjected.
Featuring characters from Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon", "Hannibal" will focus on FBI Agent Will Graham and , of course, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Edward Norton and Anthony Hopkins starred in a big screen version but there is no word yet on who will fill the shoes of the characters this time around.
Fans will know that this is actually the third incarnation of Harris' "Red Dragon" novel. The fantastic "Manhunter" being the first, starring William Petersen and the dynamite Brian Cox as Graham and Lecter respectively.
No word yet if "Hannibal" will be a fall 2012 or a midseason 2013 premiere.
House of Horrors will report on this story as more details are known.
