DVD Review: Boo!

Take some teenagers, Halloween night, some typical pranks and add a haunted hospital and you have the basis for the film, Boo!. Five teens decide to wander through an abandoned hospital on Halloween night, earlier, another group of teens decided the same thing and one brother goes searching for his sister that never returned from that adventure. One of the girls is able to 'see' images from the past and as the film goes on, you can quickly figure out what has happened and will happen. The teens soon find out that they are not alone in the hospital and the ghosts among them are not happy and don't plan on letting the teens leave.

The film has a definite 'Scream' look to it, especially the opening scene and in my opinion, it's more of the same old ideas and attempts at scares that we've all seen a hundred times. It's not very original and it's simply not that good of a film, in my opinion. I believe I read this was a straight-to-video release and I can see why. The cast is mainly made up of unknowns, save for Dee Wallace Stone and it's sad to see Stone working in a film like this. The scares are far and few between and while a scene or two of gore isn't too bad, it simply can't save the film. Perhaps I'm looking at this film with jaded eyes, but even being a fan of 'bad' horror, I find nothing to appreciate in this film. It doesn't even fall into the category, 'So bad, it's good', for me! It's not one I could recommend and feel good in doing so.
