Have you ever been sitting alone at home on a Saturday night, feelin a little lonely for some attention, and you begin to dial that number you swore you'd never call again - the singles line. Horny women, just waiting for you - yes you! Thats what the recordings tell you at least. You dial in and keep pressin one and two til youre browsing the lonely sexy ladies one by one until you come across the sultriest of them all. Seductive, breathy, yearning for things explicitly, in detail... Wow.
With this in mind, how many times have you turned on that garbage disposal and gotten a fork caught in there. You pull it out, and are amazed at the damage that little grinder can do. Twisted tines of steel. And then you ask yourself, "Damn, what would happen if I stuck my hand in there?" Flesh and bone versus a whirlwind of dull, interlocking blades sounds like a bone splintering, flesh dicing I never want to truly experience.
Put the two together, and you the have combination that formulates B.C. Furtney's short film Disposer. Those of you who own Fangoria's DVD Blood Drive II will be familiar. For those of you who are not, I'll explain why Furtney is exactly the shot in the ass our beloved horror industry needs. Some horror films are treasured for their stories or historical recreations of terrifying events - others of us enjoy films that don't hold back, and I've seen a resurgance of films like these as of late. With a screw-the-rating-board attitude, quality modern directors like Furtney kind of flip a finger up and stay true to the terror and gut wrenching blood and violence that is pure eye candy to horror fans when done effectively and professionally.
Disposer stars Wayne Kryka, who plays the nervous, skittish, glasses wearing Brad, who dials into Hookup LA - and by the dial of a single digit, finds himself on the line with one sick chick. Melanie, the woman on the other end of the line, exploring herself, wearing nothing but panties and a bra. This drop dead gorgeous woman, played by Laura Leigh Hofrichter, had me absolutely mesmerized with her smoking sexuality. The unfamiliar, jittery newcomer is lead into a sexual conversation that was raunchy and real. After about six minutes, Melanie gets to that question... "mmmm.... do you know where my hand is?" That's when sorry 'ol Brad and unprepared viewers are led to a nightmarish ending to any conversation.

This goes on for a while... |
"In the garbage disposer." Brad's face slowly ungrins. To his horror and ours, she reaches over to the switch with her hand completely inserted. Click! It grinds and chews her digits to shreds, as she moans in excruciating pain, but is she liking it? She keeps her hand in there for what seems like a full sixty seconds on film - which seems like forever in a situation like that. Low grinding metal, spraying gore, splashing and spattering all over this sultry woman as she mutilates herself - it keeps you staring at the screen. Furtney really hammered this one into my memory. It moved everyone in the room who watched it, and won't be soon forgotten.
So if you are a fan of shock horror - gruesome and stomach twisting films which deliver a Tyson-like knockout blow from out of nowhere - BC Furtney is your man. Final analysis: Disposer is an example why fans should take notice of the up and coming filmmakers in the horror industry. It grinds a place into your memory with sexy and truly disturbing, self-inflicted violence.
