Film Review: "Feeding the Masses"

With a Screenplay by one of the most underappreciated Independent talents out there in Trent Haaga, Shock-O-Rama DVD brings us Feeding the Masses. In the vein of Dawn of the Dead this Indie piece follows a group of television journalists as they go through the motions during what appear to be, the final days of mankind. At the beginning of the film we learn that the world has been ravaged by an epidemic called, Lazarus Virus. The dead are returning to life to feed on the living and their winning. What makes this film a little different than the usual Zombie fare that seems to be popping up every other day is the slate they take to telling us the story. The film jumps back and forth between this small band of TV jockeys trying to cover the biggest story of their lives and scenes of various survivors and how they deal with the end of the world. One of my favorite scenes is of a couple watching TV when a commercial comes on that tells them about ‘The Party Bus’. The announcer in the commercial tells you that if you are too scared to venture outside, the bus will come to you and pick you up. Then you can party into the wee hours of the morning on this heavily fortified Bus protected by Ex Military. What a deal! With a fare amount of gore and some decent acting, this film worth a look. The only thing I was a little disappointed with is that some of the dialogue scenes seemed to drag on way too long. They could have easily shaved 20 minutes from the film, but it’s a small price to pay for some quality Zombie love.
