DVD Review: THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING
By Dave Dreher

The stories about the making of JAWS
are legendary. Any of us who have followed the movie industry in the
last 30 years have heard the tales of Steven Spielberg's shark that
just wouldn't work. A new documentary is about to be released that
put all those stories together in one fantastic package that is a
must have for not just JAWS fans or horror fans but film fans of all
caliber.
A wonderful collection of interviews,
clips and cast recountings of those hard, hot days on Martha's
Vineyard in 1974 THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING offers up the most in
depth and loving look at a film that if you know it or not has
probably changed your life in some way.
I don't think that anyone could argue
the point that Spielberg's little shark movie has created a swell
that to this day filmmakers still ride the wake of. THE SHARK IS
STILL WORKING picks up on the set of the film when calls could be
heard over radios carried by the crew and those calls seemed to
always be saying, “The shark is not working, repeat, the shark is
not working. Through a series of conversations with the folks that
were there we learn all about the trials and tribulations of working
on the open sea with a huge non working mechanical shark and a bunch
of hot, tired actors and crew members. Great stuff. Tons and tons
of never before scene photos and videos and well quite frankly just
about all the info you could ever possibly ask for about this ground
breaking film.
This presentation comes at you in a 2
disc set. Disc one is titled THE IMPACT and Disc Two is titled THE
LEGACY and are pretty much self explanatory. Disc one goes into not
only the making but also the advertising and marketing of the film.
Really, a lot could be learned by some folks out there today. The
way JAWS was marketed is the way all films should be marketed.
Hosted by the films star Roy Scheider
and featuring the input of just about every other person involved in
the film THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING represents documentary film
making at its finest.
An absolute must see disc.
Ah yes, THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING and
truth be told for most of us it never stopped.
The project has an excellent website
that features clips and reviews and all kinds of other great stuff.
You're going to want to click here and go check that out right now.
