DVD Review: The Man With The Screaming Brain

I didn’t care for this film when I watched in on the Sci-Fi channel a week or so ago. I’m glad I gave the DVD a chance though as my opinion of the film has changed, and pretty radically.
Those of you who watched it on TV and didn’t care for it, I urge you to give it a look on DVD. Do yourself a favor though and watch the special features first, in particular the little feature titled Neurology 101 where Bruce and his producing partner David Goodman discuss the 20 year trek that was the making of Man with the Screaming Brain. I found it completely fascinating and it gave me a completely new appreciation for the film. I’m still not completely sold on the storyline of the film but after hearing of what all had to be gone through for Bruce to bring his vision to the fans I find myself able to accept the film for what it is.
Even if the content of the film doesn’t appeal to you, there is plenty that the disc offers for fans of The Bruce. His running commentary track, which he performs with David Goodman, is well done and full of Bruce’s trademark sense of humor and excellent insight. Also the fore-mentioned featurette along with Storyboard and Comic Book galleries round out a well put together package.
The Man with the Screaming Brain will be available at your favorite retailer on October 4th at the more than fair price of $19.98
