Sick Girl (Review), is the title of Lucky McKee's offering for the, Masters of Horror series for Showtime. McKee not only directed this entry, but also receives credit as co-writer. This episode stars; Angela Bettis (Ida Teeter), Erin Brown/AKA Misty Mundae (Misty), Jesse Hlubik (Max) and Marcia Bennett (Lana/Landlady).

Ida Teeter (Bettis) holds a Masters Degree in Entomology...the study of bugs and she loves any and every creepy crawly you can imagine. She has several for pets and is absolutely taken with these creatures. One day, a package arrives for Ida from Brazil and housed in the package is a very odd specimen, a bug species she's never seen before and one that is quite aggressive, as well. Ida's life is pretty much made up of bugs, but that doesn't mean she isn't wanting for some love and unfortunately for Ida, her love life isn't burning up any sheets. Things take a turn for the better, when one day, she notices a rather attractive young woman (Brown/Mundae), sketching in the lobby of the Museum of Natural History, where Ida works. Ida's immediately attracted to Miss Brown and at the urging of her co-worker, Max (Hlubik), Ida works up her nerve to talk to Miss Brown and the two agree to meet for dinner. After the meal, the two end up at Ida's apartment, where Ida's a bit worried that Erin may be put off by her bizarre collection of pets. Ida's thrilled when she learns that Erin isn't at all put off by the pets, but is in fact, the daughter of the professor Ida had in college and is the same professor that taught her all she knows about insects. It's isn't long before Erin and Ida decide to co-habitate and this doesn't sit well with Ida's landlady, Lana (Bennett), who feels Ida and Erin are going to be a bad influence on her granddaughter. Ida and Erin have bigger problems to worry about, the Brazilian bug has escaped it's terrarium and the two are turning the apartment upside down looking for it. As luck would have it, Erin is bitten on her ear and soon begins to act rather strangely. Ida soon realizes that her 'happy' world is coming to a fast and furious end.....can she figure out what's going on before it's too late?

Sick Girl is a solid entry in the Masters of Horror series. Again, being terrified of any/all bugs, this entry had some definite squirm-inducing moments for me, personally. On the other hand, the baby-talk that Bettis does in character for Ida to all those bug-pets does wear on my nerves after just a short time! Not really an all-out horror entry, this episode at times teeters on more of a relationship-comedy, but the ending does drive home the fact that this is, after all, a horror series. The 'bug' in this episode is pretty decent looking and doesn't appear to be a CGI-only effort, which is nice. Sick Girl is definitely worthy of a rental and for me, with a very strong aversion to bugs, this is one of the creepier entries!
