Directed by Paul Bartell and produced by Gene Corman, 1972's, Private Parts is one film you won't soon forget!

When runaway Cheryl (Ann Ruymen) argues with her roommate, rather than return home to Ohio, Cheryl seeks out her Aunt Martha (Lucille Benson) who manages the King Edward Hotel, in downtown L.A.. To say the tenants of the King Edward are a bit unconventional is putting it, lightly....the tenants are some of the oddest characters you're likely to meet, anywhere! You have a gay/transvestite priest, an old woman who owned the hotel at one time and is now crazy as a bat and George (John Ventantorio), a porno photographer who seems to enjoy sleeping with blow-up dolls with photo-faces of various past-tenants and now Cheryl seems to have caught his attention. Disappearing tenants, murders and a seemingly endless corridor of strange tenants behind each door make for a macabre interest for Cheryl. Aunt Martha wants Cheryl to head back to Ohio and is constantly at the girl to catch the next bus, but at the same time, Aunt Martha also appears to know the secrets the King Edward Hotel hide and while unwilling to divulge much info, that alone keeps Cheryl's interest in the tenants, high...especially George.

This was my first viewing of, Private Parts and I was in no way disappointed with this film. It has a very 70s feel to it and a definite 70s look to the film, but that certainly doesn't hinder the enjoyment and the characters in this film are great fun to watch and listen to. Lucille Benson as Aunt Martha is very solid as is the entire cast, but there's something about Aunt Martha that makes me want to see more of her onscreen and the ending will definitely explain a lot! I'm not really sure who this film might appeal to, it's not your typical slasher film, not filled with gore or a lot of bare flesh, but I could see where almost any fan of the horror/exploitation/comedy genre would find this film worth a rent at the very least and possibly worth adding to the DVD collection. I think it's a film like, Private Parts that made the 70s film scene worth checking into.
