A Full Moon's Rising on The Wolf Man Remake

In the era of the horror remake, there couldn't be one film that I would be more happier to see get a modern retelling than Universal's The Wolf Man. Still to this day, the immortal words of Maleva (Maria Ouspenskaya) ring through my soul, "Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms. And the autumn moon is bright." The original Wolf Man lauched the legendary career of Lon Chaney, Jr, whose portrayal of the misunderstood lycanthrope, Larry Talbot was as pivotial as Lugosi's Dracula or Karloff's Frankenstein to the history of horror. Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro (The Usual Suspects, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Sin City) has been tagged to get in the make-up chair and assume the role that made Chaney, Jr, a horror icon. This sounds very interesting. Well, here is the skinny compliment of Variety.
Universal Pictures will scare up a new version of its horror classic The Wolf Man, with Benicio Del Toro (The Usual Suspects, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Sin City) playing the title role.
"Seven" scribe Andrew Kevin Walker has begun writing the script. Scott Stuber, Rick Yorn, Mary Parent and Del Toro will produce.
Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., new pic will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence.
The deal came out of a series of meetings with the producers, Walker and Del Toro, who collects Wolf Man memorabilia.
The film is tentatively scheduled to begin shooting in early 2007 for a summer 2008 release.
You can never have too many werewolf movies, so I am kind of psyche to see what becomes of this production. So keep here for more updates and beware the moon!!!
