Li Ee Kee over at The Star Online Ecentral makes a good point, noting that Asian features have been few and far between at the box office lately.  Never fear - there are at least three Asian horror films on the horizon.  Here's the article - I edited it to show only the horror previews.   If you have a deeper interest, you can read the full article in its entirety by clicking

It has been a slow start to the year for fans of Asian movies. Good news is things are picking up with a host of movies for your viewing pleasure, especially if you are a fan of horror flicks.

Here are the movies that will hit the big screen nationwide in the coming months.

The Heirloom - (official website) - (trailer - windows media)
Cast: Terri Kwan, Jason Chang, Chang Yu Chen and Tender Huang
Release date: Now playing

Twenty years ago, the entire Yang household took their own lives by hanging themselves. Only one member survived. However, the reason behind the mass suicide was never known.

Fast forward to present day. James (Chang), a distant relative of the Yang family, inherits the mansion. He moves in with girlfriend Yo (Kwan). They later throw a house-warming party inviting friends Yi-Chen and Ah-Tseng to stay over for the night.

Soon, strange things begin to happen, including James and Yo’s discovery of a mysterious fourth floor. They learn that the Yang fortune was built with the aid of child ghosts. Raising child ghosts may bring great fortune but at the same time great tragedy.

The Heirloom is Taiwanese director Leste Chen’s first attempt at the horror genre. It took one year to make at a cost of NT$16.5mil (RM1.9mil). The film was nominated in the best original film score category in last year’s 42nd Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan.

Re-cycle - (official website) - (trailer - quicktime)
Cast: Anjelica Lee Sinje and Ekin Cheng
Release date: July

THE Pang Brothers made their names as the siblings of horror movies with the chilling The Eye (2002), The Eye 2 (2004) and The Eye 10 (2005). Anticipation is high for their latest effort, Re-cycle.

It is said to be inspired by the recycle bin of computer programmers. Files that appear to have been deleted are in fact still stored in the hard drive.

Employing a similar concept, the brothers weaved a story of forgotten and forsaken people, memories and objects that have been put away in another world.

Young writer Chu Xun’s first novel, a touching love story, becomes a bestseller throughout South-East Asia. During a book-signing session, she announces that she is working on her next book, titled Ghost’s Land, which deals with supernatural forces.

But after drafting her first chapter, Chu deletes the file from her computer. She begins seeing things soon after.

Ghost Train - (official website)
Cast: Erika Sawajiri and Syun Oguri
Release date: August/September

THIS Japanese movie is based on the urban legend of a haunted train. Nana lives with her sister Noriko. One day, Noriko disappears at the train station. The police fail to discover anything.
