My buddy Patrick just checked in with some news on a couple of new releases by Asylum, here is what he has sent along:

Here is a first look at two upcoming DVD titles coming soon from Asylum Home entertainment.

The first is When a Killer Calls. The story follows a young attractive babysitter trapped in a house who keeps getting harassing phone calls. She later learns that the phone calls are coming from inside the house. Sure that sounds like the recently released When a Stranger Calls. But before we dismiss the film. I have to say that Asylum’s take on War of the Worlds was one of my favorite adaptations. So I plan on at least checking this one out.. The film is slated for a February 28th release. It was written and directed by Peter Mervis .Peter also directed Dead Men Walking for the company. The cast includes Rebekah Kochan, Mark Irvingsen, Robert Buckley and Sarah Hall. The DVD will include a behind the scenes featurette and cast and crew commentary.

The other title is Hillside Cannibals. This film is based on a true story. That was allegedly the basis for The Hills Have Eyes. Its original working title was Hillside Cannibals: The Legend of Sawney Bean. What I know of the legend is that Sawney was the head of 18th century family of killers. That was built on incest and cannibalism. The family held a 25 year killing and robbery spree from a Scottish sea cave hideout. Hillside Cannibals is directed by Leigh Scott the man behind Asylum’s entertaining King of the Lost World. The film stars Heather Conforto, Tom Nagel, Vas Andreas and Tom Downey. It is set for a March 28th DVD release and can be found along with When a Killer Calls at your local Blockbuster video store.
