Moore Talks Up "Omen"

What are the big changes in store for The Omen 666?  Paul Moore, the director of the remake of the original "classic," talked to Sci-Fi Wire during the Wondercon Convention.  Who is Paul Moore?  Well, I'm glad you asked.  He's the director of such films as Behind Enemy Lines and the remake of Flight of the Phoenix.  Before that, he made commercials.

Sigh.

On the subject of the significant set-pieces from the original, Moore says, "I think we reinvented two out of the big five. But the other three, I just thought, 'Look, let's just do these as well as we can. Because we've got some new technologies. Obviously with the hanging, there's some wire-removal issues, so we can make it slightly better. But I think being faithful to ... the idea was more important than showing off, 'Well, look how cool we reinvented this.'"

He's also tried to give the movie some modern context.

"There's a scene in the Vatican, where a cardinal makes a presentation to the Council of Cardinals and shows things—everything from 9/11 to [the] tsunami to Hurricane Katrina—and says, 'Look, the time is ripe. This guy's going to turn up.'"

I'm a bit leery about seeing those images used in the service of the fifth movie about little Damien.  Then again, Spielberg managed to evoke 9/11 in War of the Worlds without exploiting it, so you never know.  All I know is that this film has Liev Schreiber in it, and I will see it solely for that reason.  That man is possibly the most undervalued actor in Hollywood right now.
