Take a Stroll to See the Remake of TROLL

Bloody-Disgusting.com has reported that John Buechler is hopping on the bandwagon and planning a remake of his 1986 feature film TROLL.  Beginning as a make-up artist in the late 1970’s, Buechler cut his teeth on such films as STINGRAY, SORCERESS, FORBIDDEN WORLD, MAUSOLEUM, and DEATH STALKER.  As he progressed, he also created special effects for Charles Band and Ted Nicolau, working on a slew of low-budget indie projects.

By 1985 he co-wrote and directed TROLL which starred Noah Hathaway as Harry Potter, Jr., Michael Moriarty as his father, and Shelley Hack.  Now a father of young twins, Buechler is looking to remake the film because he wants to make one that he can take his family to see.  It will be very interesting to see if Buechler retains the name of “Harry Potter” for this film, as everyone and their brother will be convinced that he stole the name from writer JK Rowling and her world-famous hero, knowing nothing about the existence of the original TROLL.

Working with a much larger budget this time, TROLL is set to bring out both a new animated television series and a new line of toys, which will be based on the original characters.  Technology has changed considerably in 22 years, so Buechler is hoping that he can more effectively realize his vision of the film as a cross between THE LORD OF THE RINGS and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA.   He is due to work with the original artists who provided the special effects for TROLL 22 years ago, and is also hoping to get some of the original cast members to at least make cameo appearances in the film.

TROLL is due for a 2008 release.  Hopefully, a special edition DVD of the original will be issued to coincide with the theatrical run of the remake; the current DVD incarnation is a movie-only release.
