Can you believe that it has been seven years since THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT was unleashed upon an unsuspecting American public in the summer of 1999? I can't. I was fortunate enough to see the film theatrically one month prior to its official release before all the hype. It turned to be the most terrifying experience I've ever had in a movie theater (unless you count the time I saw a guy pull out his gadinga in response to a friend’s dare…). I was so caught up in the film, and the last shot is what really did it for me. The directors of the film, Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, made the covers of both Time and Newsweek magazines. Then they virtually disappeared, just like their lead actors in the film. It turns out that the Blair Witch didn’t get them after all. Myrick has just completed SOLSTICE for Warner’s Raw Feed DVD line (the company that gave us the terrific California shocker REST STOP(Review), and Sanchez is due to release ALTERED on DVD, a new film that stars Michael C. Williams of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. A throwback to the horror films of the 1980’s, ALTERED concerns a group of teens who are abducted by aliens and are all affected by the trauma after they become adults. Intent on enacting revenge for their suffering, they kidnap an alien and take it back to their friends house. Needless to say, things don’t exactly go according to their malevolent plan. Sanchez is quick to point out that the film is more fun than anything else, and is not in the vein of horror films by the Splat Pack such as SAW, HOSTEL and THE DEVIL’S REJECTS.
