We all know that Robert Englund likes to talk. Over the last few years while I have been trying my hand at this he has been responsible for some pretty crazy comments. He tends to just kind of speak his mind and while that at times can be fun it can also be a bit misleading as you never know what to believe and what is just rumor. The latest thing he is commenting on is an Elmstreet prequel which I think is a great idea myself. Fango talked to the gloved one and here is part of their report:
Robert Englund says that there will be another FREDDY VS. JASON movie—but he’s hopeful that a project closer to his horror heart, the long-rumored origins-of-Freddy feature, will come first. “The rumor I hear is that there will be a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET prequel before the next FREDDY VS. JASON,” Englund tells Fango. “I’ve heard all sorts of stuff about it, but the best news I heard was that John [HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER] McNaughton may be directing it. I recently saw HENRY for the first time and it scared the crap out of me. It really worked. I love what he does with docudrama, which I believe would be a great approach for a NIGHTMARE prequel."
Englund sees the potential film as a chance to bring a more human face to Freddy. “I would love to do this one because I wouldn’t have to wear the makeup,” he notes. “I would just be able to go ahead and play this Irish white-trash guy.” The actor pictures the NIGHTMARE prequel as being structured in the manner of the long-running TV series LAW & ORDER: “There would be the slaughter of children, the capture of Freddy by a couple of cops, the horrible lawyers who get Freddy off on a technicality—and then it’s the monster and the villagers, and Freddy gets burned.”
Actually, this is pretty much the whole report but if you would like to head on over to Fango and check out their original posting just click here and you can do just that.
