Mar 14, 2006,

In order to get ready for the October premier of Masters of Horror Season 2 the folks behind the series must start ramping up now to start getting new episodes in the can.  The folks over at About.com got to have a sit down with series creator Mick Garris and asked some pretty good questions, not only about this season past but about the season to come.  Here are some snipits from the interview:

Q: You mentioned the female relationships in Masters of Horror season one. Very boys' club. What was the reaction to Lucky McKee's Masters of Horror?

Mick Garris: Mostly really good. You know, some people didn't like it. But I love that it's this 1950s sci-fi bug movie with lesbians. [laughter] Most people really seemed to like it a lot. Again, especially a younger audience.

Q: Right until the end though, it didn't have any horror. Not until five minutes to the end.

Mick Garris: Exactly. So again some of the horror fans were put off by that. But the fact that it did end up having a big bug monster made up for it.

Q: Do you expect to have all your directors announced for Season Two pretty soon?

Mick Garris: [On Season One] we had them all booked before it started shooting but then Roger Corman had to back out and George Romero had to back out, so there's always a shuffle. Part of the deal with this kind of show is that these are all feature film directors and we can't in good conscious ask them to give up a feature to do a ten day shoot for us. So we know that things will change. But I can tell you that John Landis is going to be the first director, as he was the last time.

Q: First as you're filming, but not as you show them, right?

Mick Garris: Yes. We didn't want to start with a comedy and give people the wrong idea about what the show was. [That's why we aired Don Coscarelli's straight horror episode first.]

Q: The Masters of Horror… obviously that's the directors, but you also have a lot of great horror character actors in there.

Mick Garris: And writers. We've got a lot of original writers for this stuff. But yeah, with the directors, the cast is all about the director relationships with them or people wanting to work with these directors. And it's fun.

Q: I understand also that Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan are writing another script for Carpenter. Is that for the Masters of Horror?

Mick Garris: That's right. That is for Masters of Horror. And it's really good. And not shying away from controversy once again, so this might tread in Joe Dante territory.

Q: I loved that one.

Mick Garris: Wasn't that great?

There is lots more so you really should click here and go check out the entire interview.  I don’t know about you but with folks like George Romero, Tom Savini, Stephen King, and a butt load of other horror masters not yet tapped to be involved in MOH I can’t help but wonder way we are already getting a repeat performance from John Landis.  There is a wealth of original material out there I hope we don’t see this series getting stuck in the “same-old, same-old” rut.  Time will tell.
