As was reported last week a remake of Friday the 13th is in the works. New Line is aggressively perusing the project. Fango caught up with the originals director, Sean Cunningham and asked him if he was going to be involved. Here is what he had to say:
Speaking exclusively to Fango, series creator and director of the original FRIDAY THE 13TH Sean S. Cunningham (pictured) confirms, New Line is aggressively pursuing a new film. As for who is slated to take the directorial reins, Cunningham says, Im flattered that [New Line] is interested, but Im not really involved, at least not at this point.
When questioned about the popularity of his original and the parade of sequels Cunningham had the following to say:
FRIDAY THE 13TH has been dependable blue-collar horror, he says. Jason is comfortable in his own skin, and the movies have been unapologetic. These elements taken together help explain its longevity. Of course, Jason only had a bit part in the 1980 FRIDAY, leaving the carange up to dear old Mom (Betsy Palmer). The redux will substantially expand on his character and backstory.
