Feb 1, 2006,

Well surprise surprise. Horror Channel is reporting that Tobe Hoopers Mortuary will be skipping a theatrical release and will instead make its debut on the Sci-Fi Channel on March 25th.  As I have stated on numerous occasions, I have found the recent work of Mr. Hooper to be far below par, with his Masters of Horror episode easily being the low point of the season.  I was hoping that Mortuary might turn this disturbing trend of Tobe films being less then stellar around but the fact that his latest effort is going to Sci Fi land pretty much confirms what I feared.

I love the earlier stuff of Tobe’s as much as the next fan.  I still think that Salem’s Lot is the standard by which all mini series are judged but if you are honest with yourself you can’t help but question what the hell has been going on with his recent work.

I am sure that if things hold true to form a DVD release will quickly follow the release of the film on the Sci-Fi channel.  I’ll still be watching on March 25th and hoping that I am proven wrong and that the film is awesome.  We’ll all find out together.
