This Friday brings to an end the first season of Masters of Horror. It has been a hot and cold experience for me. The ones that were good were fantastic but the ones that were bad where almost excrutating to watch. I think they batted about 500 this go around, not bad for an inaugural season.
So, this episode is called Haeckels Tale and was directed by John McNaughton. Here is a break down of what it is all about:
Based on a short story by director Clive Barker comes "Haeckel's Tale," a period piece directed by John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Wild Things). "Haeckel's Tale" is the final installment of the popular "Masters of Horror" series on Showtimeฎ.
When Ernst Haeckel (Derek Cecil, Men in Black II, Pasadena) seeks shelter from the wilderness in a secluded cabin in the New England countryside, he is told that he cannot go outside, regardless of what he may hear. As the cries of an unseen baby intermix with horrifying guttural moans, Haeckel disobeys his host and becomes embroiled in an orgy of the undead. "Haeckel's Tale" is a sexually-charged campfire story with a terrifying twist. Also starring veteran film and TV actor Jon Polito (Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing).
Director John McNaughton says that "Haeckel's Tale" is the sexiest episode yet from the "Masters of Horror" series. McNaughton cast attractive young newcomer Leela Savasta, a Vancouver, B.C. native who previously appeared on TV's "Smallville," to play a woman who desperately wants to bring back her beloved husband from the dead. While the graveyard orgy may pique viewers' interest, McNaughton reminds us that gore is still the order of the day. "Both creatures big and small meet their respective fates," he said.
"Haeckel's Tale" airs Friday, January 27 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. Check out the trailer for "Haeckel's Tale" at www.sho.com.
