George A. Romeros NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, which is now almost 40years-old, succeeds in large part thanks to the convincing performances bythose all involved in the production. Duane Jones passed away in 1988 dueto cardiopulmonary arrest, and Keith Wayne committed suicide in 1995.
Now, unfortunately, Karl Hardman, who played Harry Cooper, has just passed away this weekend. The details surrounding his passing have not been made public. I had the good fortune to meet both Karl and his wife Marilyn Eastman at a Chiller Theatre convention almost 10 years ago, and they were both wonderful to talk to.
I spoke to their daughter, Kyra Schon, a fewmonths ago and she said that they would be coming out for the 40th anniversary of the film. Unfortunately, now, the attendance will be minusone cast member.
In meeting the Hardmans, I found them to be warm and engaging people. Thankfully, director Jesse Bryden has made a documentary in honor of the 40th anniversary of the film and will be released next year. Karl Hardman is reportedly appearing in this film to recall his experiences working with the Latent Image.
His passing is sad to hear, as I was looking forward to meeting him again. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
