Its dying right before our eyes, 2005.  Its last heartbeat thumped with Christmas - now we welcome deoxygenated cellular death for this old, horrid year.  Watch it twitch as it suffocates - listen to its last death rattle on the eve of the 31st before it is reborn again - damned beast that it is.  For Time, like a hockey masked serial killer, keeps coming back from the dead, year after year after year.  While it is temporarily unconscious, struck dead to the floor by the axe of December's final week, let us run down to the local mall and grab some last minute DVDs - before it rises to claim our time once again.  From the amateur independant filmmaker to the mega-dollar hollywood productions... Here are the new DVD releases for the week of December 27th, 2005

Dark Water (2005)

DVD Release Date: December 27, 2005
105 min
Starring: Jennifer Connelly, John C. Reilly, Tim Roth
Directed by: Walter Salles

Rated PG-13/NR for mature thematic material, frightening sequences, disturbing images and brief language

Some mysteries were never meant to be solved. Take this one, for instance, from Touchstone/Disney - which only made $25 million at the box office and was really more mystery than horror. Lacking in anything terrifying or surprising, Dark Water feels like a bad Ring spinoff that tried to be a good old classic ghost story and failed miserably due to poor direction. No fault to Jennifer COnnelly - she played her part well and looked as hot as ever. Fans of Evil Dead and Poltergeist will fall asleep. Burnt Offerings and Ghost (yes, with Demi Moore) fans may find this more interesting than most. But even Burnt Offerings packed more punch than this yawner. If special features are your thing, then you may enjoy the French or Spanish audio/subtitles, deleted scenes, the sound design featurette "The Sound of Terror", a "Making-of" and "An Extraordinary Ensemble" featurettes, and analyzing key sequences with viewing options. Pterodactyl (2005)

Rated NR

Ptowering Pterror.  An expedition to a volcano discovers unhatched pterodactyl eggs, which when fully grown, like to dine on human flesh.  Take your average Sci-Fi monster movie - spiders, snakes, whatever - now switch the monster for the Pterodactyl and add Coolio.  One notable fact is that many of the characters are named after famous science fiction writers - Lovecraft, Heinlein, Burroughs, Zelazny, Serling and Clarke.  Otherwise, don't prepare to be wowed.  Click here to get it from Amazon.com
