Beware one and all the wraithlike, soul-devouring, bitter cold of winter - stand strong against the invisible enemy of microbial demons that seek to infect your flesh and burn your mind -  I have walked the frigid valley of death, staggered lost amongst its labyrinth of frozen hedges.  If you must find yourself left for dead amongst the cursed ghosts as I have... sitting frozen solid in ice beside the likes of Jack (The Shining), be not abandoned without your battery charged portable dvd player, and some new releases from the local Best Buy down the mountain road.  From the amateur independant filmmaker to the mega-dollar hollywood productions...  Here are the new DVD releases for the week of December 13th, 2005

Anthropophagus - The Grim Reaper (1981)

DVD Release Date: December 13, 2005
90 min
Starring:  Tisa Farrow, Saverio Vallone, Serena Grandi
Directed by:  Joe D'Amato

Rated R

It's not fear that tears you apart...it's him!  This 1981 Italian horror release earned a good reputation for putting off a dark and deathy feel, and providing some pretty morbid gore and violence, including a fetus eating scene.  Fans may notice that it stars Tisa Farrow, famous for her role in Zombie.  Lots of skulls and the like - this version is, however, edited and watered down, missing the most violent of its scenes.  Great to see this available on the shelves, but I'd hold off until you can get it in its entirety and uncut.  Click here to get it from Amazon.com

Bloodline (2004)

DVD Release Date: December 13, 2005
unk. duration
Starring:  Clay Admas, Cherish Hamutoff, Jay Anthony
Directed by:  Keith Coulouris and David Schrader

Rated NR

Murder runs in their family!  Produced, written and directed by Keith Coulouris and David Schrader, this is a very low-budget film about two brothers, Henry and Travis - two brothers whose youth was marred by a tragic accident.  They grow up protecting one another in accordance with their mother's wishes.  But when Henry and Travis go on a camping trip, Henry is no longer able to contain the torment he's held inside, and a weekend getaway turns into a horrific murder scene.  Now Travis must live with the aftermath, while Henry hides out with a recluse whose intentions may or may not be what he claims.  Before you get your hopes too high, know that it was filmed on MiniDV with a Panasonic 24P camera in 15 days.  Click here to get it from Amazon.com

Fear Chamber (1968)

DVD Release Date: December 13, 2005
88 min
Starring:  Boris Karloff, Julissa, Carlos East
Directed by:  Jack Hill and Juan Ibáñez

Rated NR

In the name of science he created ... The Torture Zone!  Or the Fear Chamber, whichever you prefer.  Either way, this is classic B movie basement made looking Karloff - playing a mad scientist who has unearthed a living rock which professes to have knowledge beyond his wildest dreams.  Ooh but ladies beware!  This rock lives off of a hormone produced by humans in fear - so be not scared when its tentacles reach out to suck your blood!  Probably best viewed in the middle of the night, doped up on morphine and recovering from surgery.  Features of this release include available audio tracks in English (Dolby Digital 5.1), commentary by writer/producer/director Jack Hill in Dolby Digital 2.0, a deleted scene, and widescreen format (16X9)...  Click here to get it from Amazon.com

Crimson Nights (1999)

unk. duration
Starring:  Dan Berry, Andrea Biro, Lev Gorn
Directed by:  Jeffrey Arsenault

Rated NR

Some movies I just can't buy the premise to, but this - I could see this happening to me!  A domino effect of lustful encounters sets off an infestation of vampirism in New York City, as 10 more-or-less innocent victims are turned into bloodsuckers during their erotic escapades.  Lesbian vampire - stay back!  I do not want to give into your lustful gaze, your naked body!  You naked women squirming together naked, get back!  Make that 11 victims...    Click here to get it from Amazon.com

Post Apocalyptic Triple Feature
2019 - After the Fall of New York
1990 - Bronx Warriors
1984 - The New Barbarians

DVD Release Date: December 13, 2005
270 min
Starring:  Fred Williamson, Vic Morrow, Michael Sopkiw
Directed by:  Enzo G. Castellari and Sergio Martino

Rated NR

In The New Barbarians, two mercenaries help wandering caravans fight off an evil and aimless band of white-clad bikers after the nuclear holocuast.  Bronx Warriors takes place in a post-apocalyptic New York City, where a policeman infiltrates the Bronx, after it has become a battleground for several murderous street gangs.  And in After the Fall of New York, its post-nuclear time once again, as a mercenary named Parsifal is hired by the Federation to infiltrate New York City.  The area, however, is controlled by the Euraks.  Will he be able to rescue the only fertile woman left on Earth?  These movies should be sold together, cause I cant think of anyone crazy enough to shell out 9.99 for any one of these as a stand-alone.  If you've seen em, you know.  I wonder why Damnation Alley (starring Jan Michael Vincent) isn't included in here.  That post-apocalyptic film, originally written by mastermind Roger Zelazny, could have been its saving grace.  Click here to get it from Amazon.com

Naked Among Wolves (1963)

DVD Release Date: December 13, 2005
116 min
Starring:  Erwin Geschonneck, Fred Delmare, Krystyn Wójcik
Directed by:  Frank Beyer

Rated NR

I found this listed in Amazon's new horror releases.  Any film which instills a feeling of fear and despair should be classified under horror - and in this case, its not monsters or aliens they're shunning from, its the Nazi regime.  Naked Among Wolves, shot in 1963, was the first German movie to focus on the terrible conditions inside concentration camps during WWII.  A group of men in a concentration camp find a small Jewish boy in a suitcase and set about hiding him from the Nazis.  Average men standing up to protect a defenseless child against one of the most viscious and ruthless war machines ever to walk the planet makes for a tense movie, even if it is in black and white with English subtitles.  Click here to get it from Amazon.com
