Mar 4, 2006,

So, I sit here in my hotel room the night before Fangoria Weekend of Horrors returns to Chicago.  Depending on who you talk to, the first time in 10-12 years, Needless to say, it has been a while.

Advance word here at the host hotel is that this is going to be HUGE.  They are saying that this is one of the best presales for a show they have ever had.  All this just keeps adding to the already large buzz surrounding this con.  Caretaker and I have just spent an incredible night hanging around with Tom Savini, Mick Garris and Robert Kurtzman.  Just having the privilege of spending time with these legends of the genre has already made the weekend worth while and the thing that really rocks is that the weekend has even yet to start.

Having been here the better part of the day I have really gotten a true behind the scenes look at how a major con of this type works.  I have got the chance to watch the dealers turn a bunch of empty rooms into a vast sea of stuff that I must spend my money on.  I have watched wave after wave of celebrities enter the hotel to the stares and ogles of admiring fans.  It still makes me smile when a fan recognizes one of his heroes as they stand beside them to check into their hotel rooms or grab a sandwich.  I guess it is just human nature to stop and gawk when you see someone you have seen on the big screen standing right in front of you.  It is still fun to watch.

Tomorrow will bring the “official” opening of the show and Timpone and the gang have just packed the 7 hours on Saturday with panels, screenings and Q&A’s.  Saturday evening brings promise of a special showing of James Gunn’s SLITHER.  Rumor has it that Universal has paid for 6 charter buses to haul us all too where ever they will be showing the film.  I guess I just assumed that they would be showing the film in the host hotel is some kind of screening room.  The fact that they will be busing us all to a real theatre ROCKS.

If any of you are close enough that you can make it here this weekend, you really need to be here.  It truly is shaping up to be the premier horror event in this area for the year.

Those of you who can’t, keep it right here.  The plans are to post several times over the weekend, trying to give you all a taste of what it is like to be here.

At the very least I will be posting a nightly wrap up of what I got myself into through the course of the day but if any huge news come to surface I will post it as I find it out.  Check back throughout the day for all the latest.
