Audition (1999) Review:
Audition is a very disturbing thriller which features a, to say the least, very disturbing girl. The choice of the actress and the way she plays is perfect. Behind the angel face of Eihi Shiina (Tokyo Gore Police, Helldriver), you can quickly discover a terribly tortured soul. As the movies go on, the insanity of this woman is slowly revealed to finally end up in total madness.
The movie is really long to start, which could be a big turn off for some. The first hour is really a love story and rather slow paved, reminding of another horror romance such as the Korean vampire classic Thirst. Still, these long, slow scenes build a perfect stage for the film final, which is amongst the sickest horror film final to be found. It makes all film worth to watch.
Overall a wonderful movie, I, however, disagree with the multiple critics that place it amongst the very best Asian horror film.
