A Christmas Horror Story Movie House of Horror Review:
Releasing A Christmas Horror Story in October is certainly unusual, but with its eye-catching poster and good critics all over the internet, I was really expecting something awesome, only to find a movie that “could have been cult” but falls a little flat instead. The main problem turned out to be the movie’s structure. It is built like a horror anthology, featuring 4 or 5 independent stories, but instead of the stories happening one after the other, they are all mixed together and the movie keeps switching back and forth between each of them. Each separate stories is good (really, all of them), the constant change of characters, pace and atmosphere really made me lose interest. Thankfully, the multiple stories converge together towards the end and are tied up into a decent conclusion. A Christmas Horror Story is fun to watch, and it contains a few creepy moments that are worth noticing. Thankfully, the movie does not shy on the gore and some great practical special effects are to be seen. I am not particularly fond of Christmas-themed horror in general (aside from Black Christmas)… and this one did not help much. |
