There are very few films that I own more copies of than THE EVIL DEAD.  Every time it comes out in a new format, you have to get it.  have to, no choice in the matter.

VHS? Got it.  DVD? Got it, DVD Ultimate Edition?  Got it and now the Blu-ray.

There are only a handful of films that warrant the purchasing of multiple formats but THE EVIL DEAD certainly is on that list.

No real reason to go over story line and plot details, if you at this site reading this review you damn well better know what THE EVIL DEAD is all about.  Instead I'm going to just attempt to sum up why this should be a "must have" disc to pick up.

Well, first off, it's THE EVIL DEAD!

If you want your Blu-ray horror collection to be complete you simply must have this film in your collection.  Duh!

Secondly, there is a completely new full length commentary with Raimi, producer Rob Tapert and of course Bruce Campbell.  It's a nice lively conversation with quite a bit of new info and it really held my attention through out.

This Blu-ray release also comes with a second, standard DVD of all or at least most of the special features that came on the Ultimate Edition DVD that came out a few years back.

So I guess in a way this has become the NEW Ultimate Edition.

It's a lot of fun looking back on this film all these years later and seeing so much genius in what Sam Raimi was doing and how creative he managed to be with no money and a cast and crew of friends, very talented friends it turned out but back then it was just a group of college kids who wanted to make a movie.

Amazing when you think about it.

I'm sure a good number of you will just groan and say"ugh, another freakin EVIL DEAD release" but if you've moved on to the new Blu-ray format then this one really is a must own release.

I don't know much about the tech end of things but I can tell you that the film is crystal clear and sounds better then ever.

All in all, a solid Blu-ray release that delivers the goods from a technical end and offers up that new commentary just to sweeten the pot.

I liked it, A LOT!

THE EVIL DEAD Blu-ray is out now from ANCHOR BAY.  You can CLICK HERE if you want to pick yourself up a copy.
